MicroCosm® Software Documentation

 

MicroCosm® software documentation consists of five volumes. Each set of MicroCosm® Executables is shipped with PDF files of Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4. Each set of MicroCosm® Limited Source Code is shipped with PDF files of Volume 5, Parts 1, 2 and 3. The complete documentation set consists of:

  • Volume 1, "MicroCosm® Systems Description";
    containing all of the mathematical algorithms used.
  • Volume 2, "MicroCosm® File Descriptions";
    defining all of the input and output file
  • Volume 3, "MicroCosm® Operations Description";
    containing operation instructions and support programs descriptions
  • Volume 4, "MicroCosm® Installation and Tutorial";
    containing product release notes, installation instructions and sample executions
  • Volume 5, "MicroCosm® Programmers Guide";
    for those who elect to purchase a limited source code license.

 

MicroCosm® Upgrade Maintenance Options

 

  1. MicroCosm® Executables:

    For an annual fee*, paid by subscribers in advance, VMSI will provide one year of "Upgrade Maintenance to MicroCosm® Executables." During the term of the subscription, each new release of MicroCosm® Executables, documentation change pages and release notes will be shipped to licensees of MicroCosm® Executables who have subscribed. The upgrades which are shipped under these terms will be for the same computer(s) as the original Software License Agreement(s) executed by the licensee and VMSI.

  2. MicroCosm® Limited Source Code:

    For an annual fee*, paid by subscribers in advance, VMSI will provide one year of "Upgrade Maintenance to MicroCosm® Limited Source Code." During the term of the subscription, each new release of MicroCosm® Limited Source Code (including object modules), updated documentation PDF files and release notes will be shipped to licensees of MicroCosm® Limited Source Code who have subscribed. The upgrades which are shipped under these terms will be for the same computer(s) as the original Software License Agreement(s) executed by the licensee and VMSI


* To qualify for upgrade maintenance, subscribers must first license all previous upgrades between their MicroCosm® version and the currently available version of MicroCosm®

 

MicroCosm® Software Security

 

Windows 2000/XP Pentium® PC's

When execution of the MicroCosm® Software is first attempted on MS Windows Pentium® PC's the hardware addresses of all installed ethernet controllers will be displayed. These addresses (consisting of six pairs of hexadecimal digits) must be provided to Van Martin Systems, Inc. for generation of the MicroCosm® license. An ASCII file containing the encrypted MicroCosm® license will then be conveyed via E-mail or Fax.

HP 9000 PA-RISC® Computers

The Machine ID of the HP 9000 PA-RISC® computer on which MicroCosm® is to be installed must be provided to VMSI when the purchase order is placed. The 10-digit Machine ID may be obtained by entering the following command at the system prompt:

$ uname -i

Solaris® Computers

The Host ID of the Solaris® computer on which MicroCosm® is to be installed must be provided to VMSI when the purchase order is placed. The 8-hexdigit Host ID may be obtained by entering the following command at the system prompt:

$ hostid

Silicon Graphics MIPS® Computers

The Machine ID of the Silicon Graphics MIPS® computer on which MicroCosm® is to be installed must be provided to VMSI when the purchase order is placed. The 10-digit Machine ID may be obtained by entering the following command at the system prompt:

$ sysinfo -s

Linux® Computers

For computers using the Linux® operating system (such as SGI Altix computers), MicroCosm® will generate an encrypted KSTRNG which must be provided by the user to VMSI for generation of a license file. This KSTRNG may be obtained by attempting execution of any of the major MicroCosm® programs as shown in the example below:

$ tdf

 

MicroCosm® Software Licenses

 

VMSI requires all licensee's of MicroCosm® products to sign software license agreements prior to shipment of these products. Copies of these licenses are provided by VMSI with all letters of quotation. Duplicate originals of each license must be signed by an authorized representative of the purchasing organization and must accompany the purchase order. One fully executed original of each license will be returned to the purchaser at the time of product shipment. Two forms of software licenses are used by VMSI for MicroCosm® products.

  1. Licensees of MicroCosm® Executables must complete two copies of "SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT MicroCosm® Executables."

  2. Licensees of MicroCosm® Limited Source Code must complete two copies of "SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT MicroCosm® Source Code."

If you do not have Acrobat Reader, it may be downloaded for free from the Adobe web site at www.adobe.com. The MicroCosm® license PDF files may be viewed and/or downloaded by following the links for MicroCosm® Executables License or MicroCosm® Source Code License. You may also contact Van Martin Systems, Inc. to have these licenses sent to you via mail or facsimile.

 

Payment Terms

 

Payment must be in U.S. Dollars and must be within 30 days after product shipment.

Advance payment may be required for certain international shipments.

When payment accompanies the purchase order, the price will be discounted two percent (2%) and there will be no charge for shipping.

Additional copies of MicroCosm® documentation volumes are always subject to shipping charges regardless of payment method.
